Two rules, depending on the job

Farm, construction, mining

Plant and animal cultivation, fishing and pearling, tree farming and felling, construction and mining count in Regional Australia: most of the country outside Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra.

Tourism and hospitality

Hotels, restaurants, bars and tour guiding only count in Northern Australia and Remote and Very Remote Australia: the north, the outback and a few isolated areas.

Before you rely on it

What counts is the postcode of the place where you work, not your home or the employer's head office.

Bushfire and flood areas are defined by local government area, not postcode: they aren't in this checker.

The checker reads the official list. Immigration decides, based on your payslips and evidence: keep them all.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sydney or Melbourne eligible for the 88 days?

No. Postcodes in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra and the Gold Coast don't count, for farm work or hospitality. Adelaide and Hobart count for farm work and construction, but not for hospitality.

Does hospitality count for the 88 days?

Only in Northern Australia and Remote and Very Remote Australia, for example Cairns, Darwin, Broome or Alice Springs. Bar or restaurant work in Byron Bay or Bundaberg doesn't count, even though farm work there does.

Is this the same list for the 417 and 462 visas?

The postcodes come from the instrument for the 417 visa (LIN 22/012). The 462 visa has its own instrument (LIN 22/013) with a near-identical list. For a 462, check it on the official page.
